We are often asked which is better - a timeshare or a travel club membership - and which option I feel is better value for you, your family and your hard earned money.

I guess it all comes down to your own personal preference, what your ideal situation is, and what your expectations are.

For some people, the idea of owning a timeshare, where you have all year access to a resort and are able to swap for other location opportunities, may be an opportunity well worth exploring.

For others, the idea of flexibility, great holiday discounts, and the option of experiencing several different types of vacation experiences within their own country (or alternatively exploring the world) may be more your style.

But which one is the most economical?

This really depends on how often you are going to use your timeshare or travel club membership, and the investment associated with the up front costs, maintenance, and the flexibility of travel options.

Windsor Castle Horse GuardThese are some of the things you need to consider when choosing which one is for you, and the option you will ultimately gravitate towards.

Timeshares can be cheaper to stay in than a 4-5 star hotel, especially if you have a family to consider. They have locations around the world, and you can always trade-in your week for another location, or even swap another week with someone else.

But here's what you may not know?

The biggest problem with timeshares is that you may be spending a lot of money for many years to pay off your timeshare, and the fees for staying in the resort unit you 'own' could possibly be as much as $1,000 per year.

Remember, you have to pay for things such as maintenance fees, upgrades, timeshare trading fees, assessments etc. every year no matter what.

When you consider the upfront and ongoing costs involved, timeshares really aren't a wise real estate 'investment' for consideration; they are however an alternative for people who enjoy this particular type of lifestyle and love to visit the same location year in year out.French Rivera and Nice

If this is you, and are able to use your timeshare multiple times a year, you may be able to make the investment worthwhile.

Before planning or looking at either a time share or a travel club, it may be advisable to talk to some long-time owners in a time-share facility.

Ask yourself if you can afford both the facility and the round trip travel costs each year, and are you likely to continue to use this facility each and every year.

It pays to do your research prior to making a major long-term commitment.

Here is what astute people know about buying a timeshare?

If you took all of the money that you will most likely pay for a timeshare, and you choose to purchase a travel club membership instead, you could be literally saving yourself thousands of dollars.

Enjoying A Cruise DinnerYou will have the opportunity to choose a variety of vacation choices throughout the year, ranging from traveling the world or visiting areas within your own country.

You can choose from hotel accommodation or stay in a luxury condo, holiday in beautiful villas and cottages, enjoy all-inclusive resorts, experience ocean and river cruises, tackle adventure holidays and more, all at your disposal every day of the year.

Just become a member of a travel club to enjoy the deep discounts they offer, and have the flexibility to travel when you want to, book the trip of your choice, take your family or significant other with you, and let the travel company take care of all of your travel needs for you.

You simply go on-line and do-it-yourself by filling in some forms and let the agency do the rest. It’s a simply turn-key approach that gives you the ability to be able to schedule when you want to travel, either on short notice, or possibly as much as year in advance.

Whatever your choice, the options are there for your choosing, ranging from short mini-trips or long leisurely vacations...all for a LOT less money and stress than owning a timeshare, without the long-term commitment or cash outlay.

But here's the best thing about a travel membership club...

The best part of being a member of a travel club is you are never locked in on a contract - you can simply cancel your membership if it no longer suits your needs, and you never have the huge cash outlay and often large monthly fees of a timeshare to wrestle with. London Bridge and Big Ben

Of course it's always wise to shop around, and we'd encourage you to do that before you make a decision either way, but we love our membership club and we're petty sure you will enjoy being a member too :-)

We get great discounts on all our travel and lots of cool privileges as members, and we'd like to invite you to join us...
